Reporter Nathan Brown reports that the Association for the Protection of the Adirondacks, the Residents’ Committee to Protect the Adirondacks and mutiple landowners opposed to the Tupper Lakes rezoning of land around the former Big Tupper Ski Area have appealed a state Supreme Court ruling that tossed out their lawsuit against the town.

Reporter Mike Lynch reports that a recent meeting in Saranac Lake discussed state land property taxes. "There was a genuine consensus that the system’s broken, that the state land is valuated differently across the Park," said Lee Keet, a member of ADK Action, the group who helped organize the the meeting.

A news report notes that the APA is accepting comments a proposed regulation related to floatplane use on Lows Lake. Comments received by Sept. 2 will become part of the official record. The APA may take up the issue at its Sept. 11-12 meeting.

Reporter Jacob Resneck reports that the Town of Franklin Council has accepted plans to build a community center and expand the highway garage. Adirondack Park Agency planner John Quinn said that the APA had received an inquiry over whether the project would need an APA permit and that a decision is pending.

Columnist Fred LeBrun writes that the Nature Conservancy is moving forward on its plans to sell portions of the 161,000 acres of Adirondack forestland it purchased from Finch, Pruyn. The land will be kept in timber production, with permanent conservation easements.
