Reporter Chris Morris reports that Gov. Paterson's budget calls for a two-year moratorium on new land acquisitions in the Adirondacks, as well as further cuts to the state's Environmental Protection Fund.

The Press Republican reports that the APA is conducting public hearing tonight to discuss its plans to classify or reclassify certain state lands within the Adirondack Park.

 Reporter Mike Lynch reports that the APA and DEC have proposed to classify Lyon Mountain as wild forest, the least restrictive state land classification in the Adirondack Park.

An editorial notes Gov. Paterson's call for a moratorium on buying land in the Adirondacks and Catskills raises concerns that prior land acquisitions are at risk, because private conservations groups often purchase the desired property first, and then re-sell it to the state. It is noted the Nature Conservancy still owes $80 million on its $110 million purchase of Finch, Pruyn land, which was to be re-sold to New York State.

A news report notes that Msgr. Michael Dempsey of the Brooklyn Diocese was placed on leave when the Diocese learned he is under federal investigation for child pornography charges.

Reporter Chris Knight reports that the state Attorney General's Office is still reviewing a request from a Black Brook landowner to investigate the APA. 

In a letter to the Editor, a Saranac Lake resident writes that the Adirondack Park needs cell phone coverage and the APA is abusing its power regarding this matter.
