RAY BROOK — The Adirondack Park Agency is conducting public hearings about plans to classify or reclassify certain state lands within the Adirondack Park.
The action involves 91 land classifications totaling about 31,056 acres and four land reclassification proposals totaling an estimated 468 acres.
The proposals involve lands in 10 counties, including Clinton, Essex and Franklin.
Two recent significant state land acquisitions are included in this package, along with several smaller acquisitions.
The 17,000-acre Chazy Highlands tract, located across the towns of Ellenburg, Dannemora and Saranac, is recommended for Wild Forest classification.
The Tahawus Tract, which includes Henderson Lake in the Town of Newcomb, is proposed for addition to the High Peaks Wilderness Area.
A hearing is scheduled for 7 tonight at the Saranac Town Hall, 3662 Route 3.
